They found the camper before they found water. It was rusted, half-collapsed, but still standing against the wasteland. In a dead world, even that much shelter felt like a beginning. Someone joked that civilization started there, and no one disagreed. They pried the door open, patched the walls, and made it liveable. When they discovered a leaking pipeline in the cliffs above, they rigged a way to collect water, and suddenly the place wasn’t just a stop, it was somewhere to stay. They kept the old sign nearby “Shitter’s Thataway”.

Strangers began to arrive, drawn by rumour and the promise of something better. One by one, they lingered, then chose not to leave. The camp grew, more people, more structure, more purpose. What started as a joke became the first real settlement any of them had seen in years. It was fragile, improvised, but alive. Proof that even at the end of the world, rebuilding could begin with something as simple as a place to stop and decide to stay.
