The Den

As a kid we lived near a wooded area. It was called Willie's Woods.... No idea who Willie was, or even why there were woods named after him. This name then changed to the Witchy Woods, because the stories that we made up were scarier.

The trees were always thick in the woods and a lot of kids built dens. I was a tomboy as a kid, I always found it better hanging around with boys than girls. So when we decided to build a den in the Witchy Woods I was prepared to go on the hunt for a hammer and nails (I had never attempted any DIY in my 13 years on the planet at that point). Met up with Scott, James, Sean and Beaver (his mum called him this and we have no idea why, but that's what we called him!). Off we trekked looking for the perfect den spot, we must've walked for miles and miles that day (probably only a mile, but when you have short legs 200 yards feels like miles) until eventually we found a spot.

Packed lunch was first, after all you can't possibly build THE most amazing den on an empty stomach. We were excited, we had huge plans about our den and we couldn't wait to get to work. We built the most amazing den, or at least to us it was amazing.

I wish I could be 13 again.... Without a care in the world, living the dream with my best friends in the den that we built.......
