Off Piste Relaxation

When I was younger, around the age of 8, my dad and stepmum took me and my sister skiing to Aviemore in Scotland. It was the first time I had skied and although we went to dry ski slopes at Hillend in Edinburgh, nothing actually prepared you for real snow. The snow ploughs were different on fake snow compared to real snow. The way you skied was also different. My dad would be one to teach us by literally throwing us in the deep end.

We had pretty much skied the blue and green runs, it was our last day and well we tackled the White Lady which was a red run. Bearing in mind I wasn't a particular confident skier, but we got off the poma and at this point is where me and my dad disagree on what happened next.

I remember getting off of the poma and my Dad pushing me down the slope. I pretty much screamed as I went down. Gathering speeds that I couldn't even fathom as an 8 year old. Passing multiple people who looked in panic as much as I did. Anyway, I eventually fell in a heap, skies off, one still skiiing down the hill on its own. My Dad suddenly appeared, I was unhurt, laughing, because if I didn't I would cry.

I shouted at my dad about why he pushed me, he said he didn't. He said that I passed him so quickly on the way down that he skied after me. Someone pushed me, I blame my dad and pretty much 35 years later, I still blame my dad.

I loved skiing after that, the adrenaline rush was amazing, but as I got older, hot chocolate turned into gluwhein, a drink I love regardless if I am off piste, or at home. It's my go to winter drink.....
