Pumpkins are a relatively new thing over here in the UK. When I was a wee lass growing up, we would gouge out the insides of a turnip (this took days because it was so hard to cut out). We would carve a scary face out of the front of it. Then we would put a candle in, put the lid on it and carry it around with string as a handle. We would go guising, I think you guys call it trick or treating.
However, this has changed dramatically and I guess sometimes you just gotta roll with the times. My kids are older and don't go out guising any more, which is a shame because I used to spend a lot of time with them making their outfits.
However, nowadays my granddaughter goes out, but instead of making an outfit, my daughter buys one. Instead of a turnip for a jack o lantern, she uses a pumpkin. Regardless, I still buy sweets and satsumas for anyone that comes around to my house guising.
So this year on my SL doorstep my Pumpkin King stands tall, ready to scare anyone that tries to steal his pumpkins.....
